Wen
Saunders is the Artisan’s Gallery Director and owner.
She has been a photojournalist covering life’s events for over thirty
years. She continues to photograph
and hand-print custom print black and white photographic images on fiber
archival papers in the traditional darkroom, almost a lost art in today’s digital photography world.
Displayed western and rodeo art show images are a few of over 5,000 images she photographed
during six rodeo events from 2002-2008. This
series of images is part of a 100 limited edition series of photographs, signed
and numbered by Saunders.
American
Cowboy Magazine
featured her rodeo photojournalism images (photographs from the Greeley
Independence Stampede, National
Western Stock Show, and National
Finals Rodeo). Through her
artist vision, rendered through both medium and 35mm camera formats, a
mesmerizing tension emerges from the unpredictable sense of rodeo.
Saunders’s images go beyond the “ride” of rodeo, as she photographs
moments before and after the ride.
Tamron
Industries, the nation’s lens manufacturer, continues to feature her
western images throughout their publications and product brochures. Saunders’s
images are available for exhibition at a limited number of art shows and
galleries. Her
fine art photographs have exhibited in fine art shows throughout the
country including Sedona Fine Art Festival,
Cowboy Christmas (during National Rodeo Finals-Las Vegas), and Open
Shutter Gallery (Durango, CO). A permanent collection of her rodeo
images are displayed at Café Blue Restaurant (
Boulder,
Colorado). Wen
created Got Rodeo? Apparel that includes-shirts, BBQ aprons, and
tote bags- silk screened with her western and rodeo images.
Wen
Saunders is president of The Wendy Saunders Companies, Inc.
(a
photojournalism services company) and webbyIMAGES (a web site design and
marketing seminars company). She
holds a BFA from Virginia
Commonwealth University in Communications Arts & Design.
Saunders is also recognized as one of the leading wedding
photojournalist in the
U.S.
and credited with the re-emergence of black and white photography during
the wedding day coverage. Saunders
served as Publicity Director at Fort Lewis College Theatre (2003-05)
producing print media and public relations for college theatre
productions. She
served as a board member of the Pagosa Springs Arts Council and as Art
Line columnist for the Pagosa Sun newspaper (writing a weekly column
for the arts in Pagosa Springs and surrounding area). Saunders
also conducts PhotoLEARN Children’s
Camps, PhotoLEARN Adult
Sessions, Marketing and Web Site Day Seminars, and private web site
training sessions (for more information, visit www.wendysaunders.com).

fascinated
by darkroom black and white printing techniques, Saunders produces hand-printed
fiber archival black and white images in her personal darkroom, lasting for
generations. “The image the camera
captures is true. The darkroom printing brings the image to life”, states
Saunders. Saunders also produces a
limited series of color and sepia images.
